AUGUST 15, 778 A DATE TO REMEMBER

Last Monday was the anniversary of the triumph of Baskones people against the troops of Charlemagne in the outskirts of Orreaga, Nabarra.

Some people celebrated it in organized groups, and some other people (the majority) opted for doing so personally, alone or with their respective families, by making a short trip to the summit of Ibanyeta, nearby Orreaga and remember the meaning of such battle for the actual and ancient Nabarran people, their eventual independence that lasted for more than eight centuries.

The most common way to celebrate this festivity in the Western part of the Pyrenean Isthmus, is by gathering with friends and family, either for lunch or picnic. Some display the Nabarran flag, some others sing the national anthem or any other Nabarran songs in Basque language, and some other just enjoy sports or any other relaxing activity which could blend harmoniously with the spirit of the holiday.
